Hemodialysis machine

We received a letter with an emergency request for assistance from the Department of Pediatrics of Vilnius University Hospital Santariškės Clinics.

The Department of Pediatrics found themselves in a difficult situation – they urgently need a new hemodialysis machine for body cleaning when kidneys are no longer functioning. It is a vital procedure that saves the lives of small children. And the hospital has a big number of such small patients in need for this procedure – the only way for them to survive…

The machine costs 50 000 litas…

Currently the department has only one functioning apparatus, which is very old and keeps failing, its condition is almost critical … Repairs are expensive, and procedures cannot be discontinued or delayed for even one day. The breakdown of the machine would be a disaster for little patients and their parents. The hospital staff are under constant fear about the technical condition of the machine and potentially displayed incorrect parameters, which do not guarantee high-quality treatment…

It is necessary to purchase a new machine indispensable for children’s health already today, because the number of little patients is growing. Unfortunately, purchasing practices and procedures of government agencies take too long – at least about a year. Not a single baby can wait for so long…

Support from Alexandr Gridin’s Charity Foundation would be a salvation of little patients. The collected money will be used for purchasing a new machine and donating it to the hospital. It will be regularly used by the Nephrology Unit of the Department of Pediatrics of the Children’s Hospital, which provides renal replacement therapy.

The new machine will help at least 4 children per week, who, depending on the severity of disease, undergo lengthy 3-4 procedures a week. The machine will quickly ensure the efficient workflow, will be stress-free for patients, and facilitate the work of its staff. A normally functioning machine will provide good quality of hemodialysis and great well-being of little patients, at the same time. After all, it is so important for needy kids who are sick for a long time…
