Back to school with no worries: Romena finally smiles again

It breaks our heart to know that one painful story has turned the lives of several people upside down…

A fourteen-year-old girl’s mother was deprived of her parental rights. As a result, Romena not only lost a loved one, but also found herself in a difficult situation where she had to take on more responsibility than any other teenager.

Romena had to knock on the door of her older sister, who was just starting to build her own life. And it seems that life is going well, not easily, but little by little, a small apartment is rented, which is definitely enough for a small family, after welcoming a daughter, but unforeseen twists and turns in life happen. And you need to take care of your underage sister, arrange the guardianship, settle her in an already small apartment, and then September comes, when you need to buy not only school supplies, but also clothes…

Just before the start of a new school year, we received a letter from a social worker at the Šilutė District Child Welfare and Care Center. We have been cooperating with this center for several years now, and we try to help the children attending this center as much as we can.

We learned about the small family’s big troubles from the social worker. Help was desperately needed, because preparing our fourteen-year-old sister Romena for the new school year involves considerable and unplanned expenses. At first, the social worker herself tried to help on her own, because the family’s situation was really difficult. However, our close cooperation helped this time too.

Thanks to the Foundation’s loyal benefactors, we prepared Romena for the new school year, and also transferred the Foundation’s one-time support to Romena.

The girl has been rushing to school for the second week now, without any worries, in new, much-needed clothes, and fully equipped with school supplies.

THANK YOU for coming together to lend a helping hand when our children need it most.
