Kamilė’s hope and her grandmother’s love

A few weeks ago our hearts were touched by a letter received from Šilutė. A social worker asked us for help for 13-year-old Kamilė, who is growing up only with her grandmother. Their home is an old, small place where two hearts share a room. Unfortunately, the foster care allowance is barely enough to cover Kamilė’s daily needs and the the expensive medications needed to maintain Kamilė’s health.
Kamilė is courageously facing health challenges such as a congenital defect in her lower leg, an amputation of a limb and a spinal deformity. Because of these disabilities, she often visits the Santara Clinic in Vilnius, where she has undergone several complex foot reconstruction surgeries. Kamilė walks with a prosthesis, but her daily life requires great effort and strength.
Her devoted grandmother tries to give Kamilė everything she needs. But their home lacks basic necessities. Saving money is almost impossible and a new fridge is desperately needed, and a cupboard for Kamilė’s belongings would be a real miracle.
We are very happy to inform that we have helped Kamilė and her grandmother to buy so much needed household items. We share their sincere smiles, which are our greatest reward. Let this story remind us that even the smallest help can bring hope and joy.
